Dr. Jaime M. Grant

Executive Director

Jaime M. Grant, Ph. D is the Executive Director of PFLAG National. Previously, she served as the Policy Institute Director at the National LGBTQ Task Force and the founding Executive Director of the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership. In 2011, she was the principal investigator for the NCTE/National LGBTQ Task Force National Transgender Discrimination Survey and co-author of its report, Injustice at Every Turn, which created a sea change in organizing for transgender justice. Dr. Grant has been on the faculty of the National LGBTQ Task Force’s Creating Change Conference for more than 25 years, and was the architect of their Queer the Census campaign.

Dr. Grant holds a BA from Wesleyan University and a Ph. D. in Women’s Studies from the Union Institute, where she studied with legendary LGBTQ scholar/activists Minnie Bruce Pratt, Barbara Smith, and John D’Emilio. Grant’s academic research has appeared in The Reader’s Companion to US Women’s History (Gloria Steinem, Wilma Mankiller and Barbara Smith, editors); Transgender Quarterly; and the Harvard LGBTQ Policy Journal. Her autobiographical theorizing/writing has appeared in popular anthologies including Leslea Newman’s The Femme Mystique and the National Association for Research on Mothering’s Journal. In the ’90s, she was a contributor to Sojourner: The Women’s Forum, writing on feminism and racial justice. More recently, her articles on race, gender, and sexuality have appeared in Everyday Feminism and The Body is Not an Apology.

Dr. Grant is a mother to two wonderful children, including a proud bisexual son who ran his high-school GSA.
