We’re happy to announce our 2016 publication update: OUR CHILDREN.
A rewrite of the perennial favorite PFLAG publication OUR DAUGHTERS AND SONS, OUR CHILDREN offers a fresh eye for parents, caregivers, families, and friends about what to do when a loved ones comes out. Full of useful knowledge, helpful tips, expert opinions and first-person stories, OUR CHILDREN--which has a focus on sexual orientation and gender expression--is a must read for anyone looking to learn more about how to support LGBTQ loved ones...or looking for support for themselves.
The current incarnation includes an introduction to sexual orientation, gender expression and gender identity, so that even someone who is entirely new to the conversation can dive in and begin to get acquainted with important and necessary concepts. A section of frequently asked questions offers further support and information to all readers, whether they come to the conversation afraid and unsure, entirely supportive, or anywhere in between.
Expert opinions are always helpful, and OUR CHILDREN offers several to readers, from Diane Ehrensaft, Director of Mental Health and a Founding Member of the Child and Adolescent Gender Center in San Francisco, and from Lisa Kenney, Executive Director of Gender Spectrum. In addition to expert opinions, there are also personal stories from parents of people who are LGBTQ, offering yet another form of support in the way for which PFLAG has come to be known and loved.
PFLAG publications are just another way the national organization supports the chapter network, offering up resources that are critical to the peer-to-peer support that chapters provide, whether in person, online, or by phone. This publication will land in the bookstore in just 48 hours--on Friday, September 2nd--and is currently available for pre-order.
