Thanksgiving—with chosen family and friends— is a fantastic time to reflect on what we’re thankful for in our lives. After a difficult year, it is especially important to focus on the good in our lives. This year the Learning & Inclusion team is thankful for so much, and here are just a few examples of things that are making us smile.
- Australia Votes ‘Yes’ : After years of campaigning, advocacy work, and a two-month postal survey, 61% of the population voted to support marriage equality in Australia. The Prime Minister called for action before the holidays. And just yesterday a marriage equality bill passed in the Australian Senate (If that doesn’t make you smile, then maybe these photos will!)
- The 2018 Corporate Equality Index: Even in times of political uncertainty, business leaders are stepping up to support our LGBTQ family and loved ones. This year 609 employers (including many of PFLAG National’s corporate partners and Straight for Equality in the Workplace learning partners) earned perfect 100 percent scores on the HRC CEI.
- YOU: The tireless work of PFLAG chapters, leaders, members, and supporters in communities big and small to invite, educate, and engage new allies and to celebrate their LGBTQ loved ones…we can’t think of anything that makes us more grateful than that.
(And of course, we’re also grateful for our Hamilton tickets.)
So, this holiday season, whether you and your family are celebrating Hanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Festivus, or all (or none) of the above, let’s commit to remembering what makes us grateful so that we’re better prepared to meet the challenges yet to come.
