The work done between and among faiths is an important part of the movement toward full equality, since it brings together communities of faith with the LGBTQ community and their allies. Below are some organizations doing vital interfaith and nondenominational work.

The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry: The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry (CLGS) provides programming and research support to serve faith communities, the LGBTQ community and their allies, and religious scholars alike. Their recently developed the Racial/Ethnic Roundtable Project is dedicated to working within African American, Asian and Pacific Islander, and Latino communities.

People of Faith for Equality in Virginia: People of Faith for Equality in Virginia is a collaboration of faith leaders and lay people who strive to create a statewide network of individuals dedicated to social justice. Through prayer, education, and advocacy they hope to help LGBTQ people who suffer from discrimination, challenge the belief that religious faith and intolerance are synonymous, and educate individuals of faith about LGBTQ issues.

Interfaith LGBTQ Toolkit: The Michigan Unitarian Universalist Social Justice Network’s Interfaith LGBTQ toolkit has one of the most extensive lists of resources for straight allies of faith, including information about creating welcoming and affirming congregations, lists of movies and books, denomination specific resources, and locally and nationally based advocacy organizations.

The Institute for Welcoming Resources: A project of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, The Institute for Welcoming Resources helps to strengthen the welcoming church movement through resources, events and conferences. The organization also provides trainings for faith based groups that foster inclusion, and developed ‘The Shower of Stoles’ collection to represent the lives of LGBTQ faith leaders from 32 faith traditions in six countries.

The Religious Institute: The Religious Institute is a leading national multi-faith organization that works on issues at the intersection of sexuality and religion. Their resources assist clergy, congregations, and denominational bodies to encourage the full inclusion and participation of LGBTQ people in religious life.
